Single variable jaws use wedges to clamp small parts and are used for difficult and low profile applications. They are designed with a bolt on system allowing to perform aggressive machining operations while clamping.
Hard jaws are made of a case hardened steel and are stepped with gripping faces for securing the work during a machining operation.
